 1.  What is the Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council?     The council is the governing body of the school.  It determines school policy for curriculum, staffing, discipline, scheduling, instructional practices, extra-curricular activities and other matters pertinent to the operation of the school.

2.  Who serves on the SBDM council?     Parents (min. 2), teachers (min. 3), classified employee (ex officio), and the principal.
3.  What are the procedures required for parent elections?     Parents must be elected by the parent teacher organization, or largest group formed for the purpose of parent elections.  Election by plurality (most votes by the top two candidates) is all that is required.
4.  Who may run?     Any biological, parent, step-parent, foster parent or persons who have court ordered legal custody of a student at East Heights Elementary.  According to law, parents who are nominated or wish to vote must have a child "pre-registered to attend" East Heights for the next school year.  Parent council members may not be employed in the school, district central office, a local school board member or the spouse of a school board member.
5.  What is the term of office?     The term is for one school year.
6.  How will I know who is running for council?     The ballot of nominations will be sent home with students and will be posted at East Heights.
7.  What do I do if I would like to run for council?     Complete the form linked to this question and return it to East Heights by April 3rd.  You may nominate yourself or another parent, if you have their permission.  NOMINATIONS FROM THE FLOOR WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.         Nomination Form
8.  Who is eligible to vote?     Parents, step-parents, foster parents, and legal guardians of students attending East Heights during the upcoming school year.
